Linda has always been able to sew and started her journey in interior design and decor by working for a Roman blind manufacturer. The position she held was head of production and staff. After just giving birth to her second child, she decided to take some much needed time out and with a necessity to carry on earning, thought she’d try and work from home while being a full-time mom.

She approached a local Interior decor store with a sample blind and received her 1st order. The owner was so impressed with the quality that she gave Linda her 2nd order (much larger than the first) After this, the shop owner passed on her details to the other two branches of the Interior Decor company and the orders started rolling in at a furious pace which meant she had to purchase an industrial machine and have a cutting table made. She cleared out the lounge to make space for all of this but after some time, she had to employ a machinist (who she trained) to help her get the orders out on time.

Her little home industry was growing exponentially and Linda decided it was time to move into factory premises. She registered a company, employed an accountant and found a lovely 120m2 space at the Constantiaberg business park, employed and trained up additional staff and her little cottage industry grew into a thriving business.

At this stage, she was taking in most of the CMT work from all of the Interior Decor stores and designers in and around Cape Town as well as generating her own private clients. She would go out to consult with her clients, measure up and give decor advise, run the factory and attend to all the installations herself. One of the Interior stores which she worked for had closed their factory and asked if she’d be interested in taking on their staff, so with that, she acquired a fantastic machinist who she employed as her factory manager. She then started manufacturing curtains and all soft furnishings including light upholstery with the additional knowledgeable staff compliment.

Some of her most influential clients and memorable projects were completing the interiors for De Beers mining – a beautiful job in the historic Cecil John Rhodes building in Cape Town and the private residence of Whitie Basson in Stellenbosch to mention a few. Linda ran her curtain factory successfully for 8 years until she decided it was all getting too much for one person. She packed in the manufacturing side of the business and carried on consulting with her clients and that’s when she started working with Rabie in their new Century City development as a private consulting Interior designer and was project managing minor building alterations for their buyers. She worked closely with the project team and was employed to decorate all their show flats each time they launched a new section of the development.

Linda decided it was time to get some formal training behind her so enrolled to study project management at Cape Peninsula University of Technology where she passed with distinction. Linda continued with her consulting/project management work and as the Rabie development was nearing completion, she was introduced to a private developer and worked with him on all of his projects, running all of his building sites, working alongside all of his contractors as well as the consulting architect Wynand Wilsenach. Sadly the work came to an abrupt halt when her client passed away unexpectedly due to a complication during surgery.

Linda now continues her consulting work on a much smaller, manageable scale as she is also a full time artist which she has been doing for the past 12 years which compliments her decor work beautifully.
